As you can see from the picture. fashion has never been high on my list. Books are, as well as family, animals, movies, science and nature. I write mainly for kids as well as for adults. I live in Ohio with my husband, our son and daughter and two cats. When I’m not writing, I seem to be the chauffeur of children, including many who aren’t my own, the keeper of the master schedule (since I am forgetful, this was a bad job assignment), gardener of our own small jungle, and sometimes organizer of travel. Because I love to travel, this is something I manage not to forget. If you would like to know more about me, here’s a link to my website. I do Skype visits with libraries, schools and groups of homeschoolers. I’m also available to do in-person school visits as well. I’m on Twitter as @deegarretson.
My first book, WILDFIRE RUN, came out in September of 2010. Originally titled ESCAPE FROM CAMP DAVID, it is an adventure about the President’s son and two of his friends getting trapped at Camp David after a disaster. A book blogger (Danielle Smith) who reviewed the book called it 24 meets MacGyver for middle grade. I was thrilled when it was chosen by the Junior Library Guild for their high interest middle reader category.
From the jacket flap copy: The presidential retreat, Camp David, is one of the safest places in the United States. So why can’t the President’s son, Luke, and his friend Theo stay there without Secret Service agents constantly hovering over them, watching their every move? But what should be a fun summer for Luke, Theo, and Luke’s once-friend Callie suddenly turns deadly when an earthquake sets off a raging wildfire, causing a chain reaction that wrecks havoc on Camp David’s security—and everyone’s safety.
Now, Luke needs a plan
To override the security systems
To save those who were supposed to save him
To get through an impassable gate
To escape Camp David
My next book, WOLF STORM, comes out on September 1st of 2011. It is another adventure for middle grade and younger YA readers. I had a terrific time writing it and researching the details. The short version of what it’s about is this: Sometimes filming a movie can go very wrong … and turn all too real.
Here’s a more detailed description:
Sometimes filming a movie can go very wrong … and turn all too real. Stefan is on location far from home for his first movie role, filming a blockbuster sci fi adventure. The props, the spaceships and the trained wolves on set should add up to a dream job, but acting turns out to be much tougher than he ever imagined. The presence of his famously stuck-up costar, Raine Randolph, makes him flub every scene. And no one will believe his claim there are wild wolves haunting the forest around the set. When a blizzard strikes, the word ‘Action!’ takes on a whole new meaning.
I’ve also published a historical mystery for adults, THE GARGOYLE IN THE SEINE. history is another love of mine. You can read more about it here: http://deegarretsonvictorianmysteries.wordpress.com
